Matching two tones on our wedding day - 11.12.22

Celebration of marriage is one of life’s great joys. It is a celebration of two people’s love, their commitment to one another and the turning of a new leaf in their lives. This past November, I was extremely lucky enough to marry my best friend in the world Amelia on a beautiful fall day that we will hold close to our hearts forever. Although Amelia is not a watch collector, we decided to find her something to remember our very special day. Below, we explore why watches are the perfect way to mark an occasion of this magnitude and how wearing something a bit older can add to its intrinsic value.
The Datejust we picked for Amelia is in two tone with a mother of pearl and diamond dial. The iridescent dial reminds her of the clouds where we go to visit some very dear friends and where she acquired this stunning timepiece.

The watch I chose to wear is also a two-tone Rolex but a Date model from 1976 that my Grandfather wore regularly. I inherited this piece when he passed away. There’s no better reminder of him than when I look down at the time with this on my wrist. I think fondly of younger years when we built model boats and airplanes in his workshop together. Donald shared a similar love for engineering and mechanics that he must have passed down to me. Not only is this piece the most sentimental in my collection, it spurred a deep interest in mechanical watches for me that has become one of my life’s greatest passions.
This past fall we also attended the wedding of my very good friend Phil and his now wife Tatiana.
Tatiana wore a similiar sized Datejust to Amelia but with a pink diamond dial and diamond bezel. Phil wore a Cartier “Tank Asymetrique” in platinum from 1996. Both pieces suit them perfectly!
The Cartier reference 2488 is from their CPCP line. Only 100 pieces were produced in platinum in 1996 (300 in yellow gold).

There are so few items produced today that stand the test of time compared to a mechanical watch. If properly maintained, they can be passed down as heirlooms for hundreds of years.
