Patek Philippe Calatrava 5096J - Archive Papers & Patek Service Papers - Rare
- Unit price
- /per
The Patek Philippe Calatrava stands as a testament to one of the most esteemed watch designs from the 20th century, with its origins dating back to the '30s, commencing with the iconic ref. 96. The updated ref. 3796 was introduced in '82 and ran up until the late 90s. Minimal updates included a sapphire crystal and new cal. 215. It is often referred to as the last "classic" Calatrava for its identical case shape to the original ref. 96. Although both refs. share a 30.5mm case width, these pieces are deceptive to many and wear larger due to their long and curved lug architecture, wearing with elegance for small to medium sized wrists. Some will find the original Calatrava size a touch too small and for anyone in that camp, the seldom seen ref. 5096 could be just the ticket. Produced for a very short run from '96 to '99, this updated model comes in at 33.5mm, runs on the same cal. 215 but benefits from the addition of an exhibition caseback.
This particular example on offer went through a complete service with Patek in '24. It includes an archive extract, confirming a production date of Jan, '95 and retains service paperwork from Patek, including a receipt and service pouch. It also comes on a PP glossy gator strap in golden brown with correct 18k PP pin buckle. Given the full scope of service this piece has been restored to "like new" condition with fresh dial/hands that are completely mint. The case is also very clean with minimal signs of wear, displaying thick lugs with sharp edges. For anyone looking for a truly special Calatrava, this piece is a great opportunity to acquire what we believe could be an important vintage gem of tomorrow.
