Introduced in 1954, the now cult classic Rolex GMT was initially designed as a pilots and travelers watch with its roots tied to Pan Am. The first examples featured a "Pepsi" bezel insert which provided ease of use for deciphering day/night in an alternate time-zone and remains in production to this day. Over the decades, various iterations of the GMT have been released from the "Root Beer" to the blue "Batman." Today, the GMT is as practical as it is popular with collectors, offering great beauty in it's vintage and neo-vintage examples which have taken on their own unique character over the decades.
The ref. 16750 is a "transitional" era for the GMT as it housed the very last of the matte dials carried on from the ref. 1675. What makes this ref. the best of both worlds is the addition of a quickset date. This particular example, circa '85 is a final year example of the matte dial and has remained in nice vintage condition. The dial has aged cleanly to a nice "egg shell" patina and the insert retains much of its factory color with minimal distracting wear. The hands were professionally cover matched to the dial by True Patina with a service invoice for documentation. The case remains thick with some chamfer visible on all corners. The bracelet 78360/580 shows a G date code. It shows medium stretch, and retains 13 links, fitting an approximate 7.75 inch wrist.
