Universal Genève were one of the many brands to give way to the quartz crisis but their quality and rich history have kept vintage watch collectors attention decades later. Arguably best known for their Compax chronographs - notably worn by Eric Clapton and Nina Rindt as well as their Polerouter - a Gérald Genta design at the young age of just 23, UG timepieces saw notable usage as tools and on the wrists of celebrated figures. Today, Breitling's acquisition and revival of the brand in '23 is bringing back more attention to the deeper cut brand that vintage enthusiasts love so much.

On offer is an interesting "Calatrava" style dress watch housed in 18k yellow gold. This piece is a standout find for its pure design which likely pulled cues from the Patek Calatrava as it features dauphine hands and lapped markers. The 34mm case is ideal for small to medium sized wrists and houses a bumper style automatic movement. Overall this example has remained in fantastic condition for its age. The dial has very minimal signs of wear for the era with nothing distracting to the naked eye. The case is equally impressive and retains thick, evenly proportioned lugs with crisp markings still visible. For any collector looking for a seldom seen UG and charm of a "true vintage" dress watch this one hits all the notes one could hope for.
