The UG Polerouter made a lasting mark in horology with its romantic ties to aviation. Introduced in 1954, the model was released in partnership with Scandinavian Airline System (SAS), with the goal of creating a timepiece that was resistant to higher magnetism experienced in the North and South Poles. The Polerouter is also coveted for being a Gérald Genta design and at only 24 years old at the time, it is considered his first great contribution to horology. Genta would go on to design two of the most iconic pieces of the 20th century with the Nautilus and Royal Oak and more. Today, collectors are coveting the Polerouter as much as ever with the recent release of the Polerouter book in late '23. It was also around this time that the news of Breitling acquiring UG broke, which many collectors hope will further invigorate appreciation for the brand with its re-inception. 

This example features a "no date" and crosshair black gilt dial that has "tropicalized" an attractive "chocolate" tone. It houses a high-grade UG micro rotor cal. 215. Overall, it has remained in nice vintage condition with an attractive dial and correct signed crown. The caseback still shows a UG logo but the ref. and serial have rubbed off as is the case with many examples. That said, the case remains very sharp with thick, evenly proportioned lugs and strong chamfers. For anyone looking for a UG with lots of character, this one tells a story, was just recently serviced so it's ready for its next chapter. 

Dial: Has patina'd heavily into a "chocolate" tropical tone, adding great character. The radium plots have mostly flaked away but their presence is still visible. Hands: Are matching. There is some lume loss in the hour and minute hand. Case: Thick, even lugs and very sharp chamfers. Normal signs of use consistent with age. Correct signed crown. Crystal: Is a service replacement but remains clear. Bracelet: Two piece leather strap in brown with generic pin buckle.
