We’re always hunting for unique pieces and this Accutron Deep Sea World time from Bulova definitely fits the bill. Accutrons have become more collectible in recent years due to their cameo in Mad Men, as well as the success of Bulova/Accutron’s adjacent reissues. Tuning fork movements are an interesting part of horological history and actually pre-dated the quartz movement. They produce a light and soothing humming noise from their vibration when held close to your ear and when introduced by Bulova were considered so accurate that they were used in spy satellites by the U.S. Military.

This now sought-after Deep Sea variant features an inner-rotating world time bezel, day and date display and a beautiful taupe/brown dial that sets it apart from more common dial colors. The orange seconds hand adds a funky pop of color to top off the package. It should be noted that the oversized dual crown cushion style case has a lot of wrist presence. This is a burly tool watch! The Bulova electronic tuning fork 2182 movement which it houses was recently serviced by someone who specialized in these movements

Dial: Very nice and even patina on the markers. There are a couple of scuffs under 9 o-clock that likely came about during service. We have resources to have this repaired if the next owner so chooses. Dial repair isn’t something we recommend often but it can make sense for lower value pieces that aren’t investment grade.

Hands: Are matching and their tritium is all present and stabile.

Case: Shows sharp edges and remains in excellent shape. Crisp markings on caseback still visible. Correct signed crowns.

Bezel: Light signs of use consistent with the rest of the watch.

Crystal: Clear.
