Part of what makes hunting for Cartier so exciting, even today is the fact that scholarship for the brand is still developing, leaving treasures yet to be found and documented. This particular Carrée (square in French), circa 1940s is one of our all-time favorite Cartier discoveries. Its case shape is interesting and unusual and houses a two-tone dial with gorgeous Cartier signature. The Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o-clock are also uncommon to come across as Cartier utilized Roman numerals for the vast majority of their dials. Elegantly proportioned at 11 X 11mm (27mm including lugs) the case houses a backwinding European Watch & Clock (EWC) caliber. EWC was launched in the 20s as joint venture between Cartier and Edmund Jaeger (Jaeger-LeCoultre) and were know for their high quality and innovative movement manufacturing. 

Remaining in beautiful vintage condition, this near 90 year old timepiece shows light but honest wear on its dial and is well-preserved considering its age. The 18k yellow gold case still displays its numbering well on its back and we've just received this piece from a full movement service so its ready to enjoy for decades to come. As many Cartier collectors know, production numbers in this era were minute compared to later decades so we're confident in saying this is a truly scarce gem. We cannot think of a more special and charming conversation starter for the wrist of its next custodian. 

Dial: Shows light but honest wear on its dial and is well-preserved considering its age. Nothing distracting to the naked eye. Hands: Are matching. Case: Excellent for its age with no notable dents. Numbering is still visible. Correct backwinding crown. Bracelet: Custom made and supple two piece lizard strap in green. Generic buckle. Crystal: Mostly clear, there is a small scratch upper right but it isn't distracting. Accessories: Genuine Cartier service pouch for storage and travel. The movement just came back from a complete service. It is running nicely on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
