The Cartier Tank has achieved iconic status in the world of watch design and, with the exception of a few distinctive variations, has maintained a consistent aesthetic throughout its extensive production history. The first commercially available Tank Normale was introduced in 1919, having been inspired by the treads of the French Renault FT-17 tank used in WW1. Throughout the decades, Tank watches have been documented on the wrists of notable figures from Jackie Kennedy to Andy Warhol. Today, Cartier feels more relevant in the worlds of fashion, music and popular culture than ever before. 

This "pre-must" era Tank ref. 15716 was launched in the early 1970s and certainly captures the funky aesthetic of the disco decade. There were 3 variants: New York (2.5k units) London (5k units) and Paris (with 5k units) approximately. This particular version is a NY iteration with jumbo triple stepped case which, like all version is 14k gold over brass. It houses a beautiful glossy brown dial with gold accents, pairing to gold hands. For anyone looking for an oversized vintage tank this piece boasts a large case diameter of 27 X 37 which is suitable for medium to larger sized wrists. It has remained in excellent vintage condition with a clean dial and case showing no notable wear. 

Dial: Is excellent with minimal wear. There is a small mark above the signature but it is not distracting. Some scuffs on the crystal in the macro shots are not dial wear. Overall, it presents very well considering its age. Hands: Are matching. Case: Fantastic preservation with very light signs of use and markings still clearly visible under magnification. The crown appears correct and matches some other version we researched. Bracelet: Two piece lizard grain strap in blue and Cartier plated buckle. Crystal: Has some light scuff but no cracks. Accessories: Genuine Cartier service pouch for storage and travel. The movement is running nicely on our timegrapher and comes with our 6-month mechanical warranty.
