The Cartier Tank has achieved iconic status in the world of watch design and, with the exception of a few distinctive variations, has maintained a consistent aesthetic throughout its extensive production history. The first commercially available Tank Normale was introduced in 1919, having been inspired by the treads of the French Renault FT-17 tank used in WW1. Throughout the decades, Tank watches have been documented on the wrists of notable figures from Jackie Kennedy to Andy Warhol. Today, Cartier feels more relevant in the worlds of fashion, music and popular culture than ever before. 

Cartier are mostly known for their manual wind pieces, however in the 1970s they produced two different automatic Tank references for a short period and as a result they have become highly collectible in recent times. The "Jumbo" ref. 17011 being the smaller model of the oversized Tank, while the "Jumbo XL" ref. 17002 offered here being the larger sibling. These can quickly be identified by their "bubble" type caseback to fit the ETA based caliber's winding mechanism. Despite this, these pieces still wear quite flat to the wrist as one would hope for from Cartier. This rare "Jumbo XL" tank on offer has remained in wonderful vintage condition with excellent dial/case preservation and comes with its period 18k deployant. We could not be more thrilled to offer this true Cartier collectible to its next custodian! 

Dial: Excellent and very clean preservation. There are no notable blemishes or distracting marks to the naked eye. Even under a loup it presents as a top example. Hands: Are matching. Case: Has remained strong with thick and even proportions. There is some wear on the back but all of the markings/hallmarks are still deep and clearly visible. Correct crown. Bracelet: The strap is genuine Cartier gator in black but it is short and will only fit a 6.5 inch wrist. It will likely need updating. The 18k Cartier buckle is included however and is correct for the period. Crystal: Clear. Accessories: Genuine Cartier service pouch for storage and travel. The movement is running nicely on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
