The Cartier Tank has achieved iconic status in the world of watch design and, with the exception of a few distinctive variations, has maintained a consistent aesthetic throughout its extensive production history. The first commercially available Tank Normale was introduced in 1919, having been inspired by the treads of the French Renault FT-17 tank used in WW1. Throughout the decades, Tank watches have been documented on the wrists of notable figures from Jackie Kennedy to Andy Warhol. On offer is a highly unusual ladies Tank reference 1141 with mother of pearl dial. For the most part, Cartier did not experiment with dials as much as Piaget with their stone and MOP dials. For the serious Cartier collector, this piece is the best of both worlds. The dial takes on a vast array of moods as one might expect. Perhaps just as spectacular of an addition is the rare "pyramid" style bracelet it comes on. In researching this piece we have not been able to find a single other documented example.
