Enicar Seapearl 600 (Sherpa) - Tropical - 1950s
- Unit price
- /per
The Enicar Seapearl holds a significant place in horological history. It was tested by the United States Navy in the 1950s along with Rolex and Blancpain watches for potential issued use. While it never became an issued watch, it still made it on the wrists of many divers and was touted for it's water resistance and compact build. More significant to the Seapearl's story was Enicar's use of the watch for an expedition to summit Mount Everest in 1956. Later iterations of the Seapearl showed the "Sherpa" moniker as a nod to the success of the expedition and the watch's capabilities. Sherpa of course later became the most successful line of watches that Enicar produced, cementing the Seapearl as a major piece of Enicar's story.
We estimate this particular example to have a production period of 1959-61 based on the 2nd iteration hands. The watch features a gorgeous tropical radium dial that is stunning to see in person.
Note that the watch was sourced from a serious Enicar collector and scholar. We currently have several other pieces from his collection in our inventory and more are being released in the coming weeks.
Condition
The dial has beautiful tropical patina that is fairly even. There is some degradation to the markers lume but it is not distracting. The case has some honest wear but no significant dents or scratches. The edges remain sharp. Period correct signed crown. The hands are all correct for the reference and contain all of their lume. The movement was serviced by our watchmaker and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
