This Enicar Sherpa Jet with mark 1 dial could potentially be one of the most exciting pieces of history we’ve shared to date. Not only does this early GMT remain in stunning condition, the Vietnam-era example, circa 1964, has ties to a U.S. pilot who owned it for much of his life.

As we can see from the beautiful clasp engraving, the pilot’s name sits under a set of naval aviator wings. While NAW can show a connection to the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, research from publicly available documentation shows that this particular Lieutenant Colonel served in the United States Marine Corps as a fighter pilot. He trained in Pensacola Florida, and served at duty stations all around the U.S., including Texas, Virginia, Kansas, Georgia and more. We also know he served at the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, in Japan.

As watches were must-have pilot tools, it is only fitting that a GMT be used in operations nearly half the world away from Zulu time. The Enicar Sherpa Jet is not a piece we’ve seen much, if at all tying to military history, however and this is likely one of the few examples of that connection.

This pieces primary owner's name is being withheld from all except its next caretaker.

Dial: Remarkable condition for its age. All of the aging is even and there are no notable blemishes under magnification. Some of the scratches on the crystal appear to be dial blemishes in the photography, however under a loupe the dial appears clean and particularly stunning for these early example Jets. All of the tritium lume plots are present, full and have an even mustard color. Hands: Correct for the reference. Some degradation of the tritium lume, particularly in the minute hand but it remains mostly intact. The GMT hand still even has its orange color lume. Case: Appears completely unpolished and displays honest signs of use across the board. Correct signed crowns. Bracelet: Correct Enicar beads of rice bracelet with unique engraving. Displays medium stretch for its age. Bezel: Remains sharp and well preserved. There are no significant dents. Crystal: No cracks but has some scratches which we’ve opted to not polish in order to preserve its history. Accessories: Bracelet fits between a 6.5 – 8-inch wrist with the current links and micro adjust. Two spare links are also included. All operations of the watch function flawlessly. The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
