Enicar Ultrasonic w/"No Lume" Crosshair Dial - 18k Yellow Gold - RARE
- Unit price
- /per
Enicar's inception traces back to 1914, when Ariste Racine established the brand in Switzerland. Interestingly, he crafted the company's name by reversing his own surname. Enicar endured through the following decades but faced financial turbulence during Quartz Crisis, succumbing to closure in 1987. The brand's enduring legacy is embodied in its iconic Sherpa series, a collection that catapulted Enicar to prominence. This series epitomized a diverse array of celebrated models such as the Sherpa Graph chronograph, the Sherpa Dive dive watch, and the Sherpa Jet GMT, among others.
Sherpa dials often bear the inscription "ultrasonic." During the mid-20th century, watchmakers adopted a unique practice of showcasing their timepieces' merits directly on the dial. This went beyond highlighting the movement's jewel count or simply stating "automatic." Instead, words like "supertest" and "incabloc" became integral selling points, effectively transforming the watch dial into a self-promoting advertising platform. In the realm of Enicar, the term "ultrasonic" held special significance, denoting an advanced cleaning process implemented during assembly. This innovation, introduced by the brand in 1953, served as a distinguishing feature amidst the competitive Swiss watch landscape. Enicar boldly asserted that its meticulous process extended the lifespan of movement oils, proudly declaring that its timepieces could endure longer service intervals.
On offer is very seldom seen 18k yellow gold dress watch that's branded as Ultrasonic. The dial is champagne colored and has taken a beautiful patina with a lemon tone. The dauphine hands and arrow-like hour markers are non-luminous so there's no concern of loss of tritium or other material. The applied "Saturn" logo makes this piece more playful than the Omega Seamasters of the era most definitely more scarce. This gorgeous piece has remained in excellent condition and will be ready to enjoy for decades to come.
