Gerald Genta Gefica Reserve de Marche "Bronze Safari" - Unique/Mint
- Unit price
- /per
Gerald Genta was a prominent Swiss watch designer who revolutionized the watchmaking industry with his bold and distinctive designs. Starting his career as an apprentice with Patek Philippe in the 1950s, Genta quickly gained a reputation for his creativity and innovation. He founded his own design studio in 1969 and became one of the most sought-after watch designers in the industry, creating some of the most iconic watches of the 20th century, including the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, and the IWC Ingenieur. Genta's designs were known for their unique shapes, use of materials, and attention to detail, and continue to inspire watchmakers and collectors around the world today.
The Gefica model came about in 1984 at the request of thee safari hunters and derived from the first two letters of their last names: Geoffroy, Fissore, and Canali, resulting in "GEFFICA." The innovative use of bronze for its' case addressed visibility issues during hunts as it minimized reflection. Not only was this creative, it was also the world's first wrist watch made in bronze and featured a compas and moonphase complication. Genta went on to produce other models in bronze with the GEFICA Reserve de Marche in very limited quantities in the 1990s.
This particular variation of Reserve de Marche is likely a unique piece and is the only green version known to exist. The timepiece features a striking power reserve indicator above 6 o-clock and remains in stunning condition for its age. This is a rare opportunity to acquire such a unique and interesting adventure themed tool watch from such a notable manufacture.
