The Omega Speedmaster First in Space is a contemporary homage to the iconic CK 2998, the original Speedmaster worn by astronaut Walter Schirra during the Sigma 7 mission on October 3, 1962. This 2024 reissue retains the timeless design of the second-generation Speedmaster, while integrating modern updates for enhanced performance. The 39.7 mm case is crafted from a blend of polished and brushed stainless steel and is paired with a “flat links” bracelet featuring Omega’s innovative comfort release adjustment system. The black aluminum bezel is marked with the classic tachymeter scale, complete with the signature “Dot Over Ninety.” Beneath a sapphire crystal designed to evoke the look of vintage hesalite, the grey-blue CVD-coated dial evokes the aesthetic of early CK 2998 models. It is accented with vintage-style Super-LumiNova-filled “Alpha” hands, a white varnished central seconds hand, and three subdials for the 30-minute, 12-hour, and small seconds displays.
