The initial run of Porsche Design watches were originally produced by Orfina ( 1972 - 1978). The design house focused on all things Porsche would later go on to work with IWC and have subsequent re-iterations. However, the most collectible variants are part of the initial production run.

More recently, they've reached a cult-like following due to their connection to film and of course strong ties to the automotive world. "Maverick" Played by Tom Cruise in Top Gun wore an early PVD coated version which would have housed a Valjoux 7750 movement. This example on offer is a later variant with automatic Lemania 5100 movement, featuring hacking seconds and quickset for the day and date. Both the PVD and steel bead-blasted version like this were meant to be anti-reflective and stealth in nature. Whether you're a Porsche enthusiast, or have a heavy case of Hollywood nostalgia, or perhaps both, this is a wonderful conversation piece that will be reliable for decades to come.

CONDITION REPORT

Dial: Near 10 o-clock there appears to be a scuff from a pervious service. There are also some speckles of white coming through the matte dial where it appears to not have been sprayed fully during manufacturing. We believe this to be more a result of production than damage and it could be touched up before shipping if the next owner so chooses.

Hands: The tritium has aged a bit differently between the hour an minute hand but all of the hands are correct for the model.

Case: Very sharp and appears unpolished. The lugs are thick and even. Correct pushers and signed crown.

Bezel: Remains sharp and appears unpolished.

Crystal: A few light scuffs but no cracks.
