The Patek Philippe Calatrava stands as a testament to one of the most esteemed watch designs from the 20th century, with its origins dating back to the 1930s, commencing with the iconic ref. 96. Today it remains what most collectors consider to be the archetype of a time-only dress watch.

This particular Calatrava is a seldom seen ref. 2533J, circa 1950s and housed in 18k yellow gold. Often overlooked in favor of the legendary ref. 565, the 2533 is in fact its direct successor. Introduced in 1952 following the 565’s discontinuation, it preserves much of the same design language while evolving the concept with a more angular style case geometry and center sweep seconds. Its substantial, screw-back case offers a level of durability not often found in PP's time-only models. This piece has remained in very nice vintage condition with a fantastic non-luminous dial, featuring lapped markers and a classic pairing with dauphine hands. The dial has very few signs of wear at all and the raised enamel signature is extremely well-preserved. The case has seen some polishing in the past but retains deep hallmarks and could be touched up down the road to add sharper edges. For anyone looking for the charm of a "true vintage" PP Calatrava with unique styling this piece remains a great value in today's market.
