In 2006 Patek Philippe released the ref. 5140 as a successor to the now iconic 3940 which is today considered the quintessential perpetual calendar for the last half century. Given the significance of the pervious reference, we believe the 5140 could potentially be undervalued and a genuine collector piece in the future. Today it’s already a benchmark for how other automatic perpetual calendars are viewed. Notably, the 5140 took the groundbreaking caliber 240Q with automatic micro-rotor but added some welcome refinements and boosted its case slightly from 36mm to 37mm. The dial also received some minor contemporary tweaks, all the while remaining fantastically elegant.

This particular example is housed in white gold and has remained in fantastic condition with a mint dial and sharp case with deep and crisp hallmarks. There are some light signs of use but no distracting marks. The caseback displays a service sticker from Patek suggesting a recent service and included are its 18k Patek deployant buckle and strap. For anyone looking for a modern classic and complicated timepiece, we can’t think of a better potential option for its next custodian.

There are some light signs of wear detailed in the macro photography but nothing distracting. Correct signed crown. Crystal: Clear.
