The Gondolo stands as a unique story in Patek Philippe’s history. The collection is named after the famed retailer ‘Gondolo & Labouriau’ from Rio de Janeiro, as a testament to their relationship with Patek from the early 1900s. The ref. 3430 was initially introduced to the market in 1958, lasting until the mid 1970s. The ref. 3430 is noted by its distinct square case shape, which calls to mind Patek’s interpretation of the mid-century aesthetic. Throughout the production run, the ref. 3430 was made in a variety of dial configurations as well as case and bracelet choices, notably in all precious metals: white gold, rose gold, platinum, and as we have here, 18K yellow gold.

This particular ref. 3430 features an elegant gold/champagne sigma dial. The sigma dial adds some rarity to the watch since they were only used for a short period during the 1970s. The sigma called out the use of actual gold in the dial making process as a signifier for added value to the watch. This was strategically done by the Swiss industry during the Quartz crisis to differentiate the high-end mechanical watchmaker. This piece is in nice vintage condition for its age with a very well-preserved dial. The case has been lightly polished in the past.
