The Rolex Datejust is one of the most significant models in the history of watchmaking. First introduced in 1945, it was the first self-winding wristwatch to display the date on the dial. This four digit ref. 1601, circa '72 is a cut above the usual examples we look for due to its black "confetti" dial. This collector nickname comes from the combination of color visible in the dial up close. This was not only a unique offering in the Rolex lineup but a true rarity that has become very sought after. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to state that this is likely one of the best surviving examples found. The dial is truly mint with all tritium plots full and cleanly aged to an attractive yellow patina matching the hands. The case/bracelet/bezel all appear completely untouched. The bracelet is a correct 6251H/55, fitting an approximate 8.5 inch wrist. The icing on the cake is the addition of inner and outer boxes, punched warranty papers and two booklets and wallet making this example worthy of the most discerning collector.

Dial: Is a rare black "confetti" variant that remains completely mint under magnification. All of the tritium plots have aged cleanly, evenly and taken a highly attractive, yellow patina, matching the hands. Bezel: Is sharp and appears unpolished with no notable wear. Hands: Are matching and their lume is clean/stable. Case: Remarkable preservation and appears completely unpolished. Some light signs of use but clearly looks to be work sparingly. Correct signed crown. Bracelet: Correct 6251H/55. It appears unpolished with a sharp coronet, remains remarkably tight for its age and will fit an approximate 8.5 inch wrist. Crystal: The top left has a small chip but it is otherwise clear. Accessories: Inner and outer boxes, punched warranty papers and two booklets and wallet. The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 6-month mechanical warranty.
