This five digit reference Rolex Day-Date or “President” strikes the perfect balance of modern features and vintage aesthetic. The watch, circa 1988 houses a first production year “double quickset” movement which is undoubtedly more coveted than previous iterations. We much prefer the brushed lugs of this era compared to the modern counterparts which feel just a bit too flashy at times. There is also something to be said for the luster of “old gold” which provides more warmth and character on wrist.

We couldn’t resist acquiring this piece due to the factory diamond dial which sets it apart from most examples. Given that gem-set Rolex have been garnering much more attention from top collectors, we believe the future is bright for these hand-set dials. Finally, many collectors would agree that these five digit Day-Dates are some of the most undervalued Rolex’s on the market. They trade at less than half of the modern pieces and to most discerning buyers are frankly better watches to own.

CONDITION REPORT

Dial: Flawless under magnification. All the tritium plots have aged to a gorgeous and even patina with no spotting.

Bezel: Excellent with no blemishes to note of.

Hands: Match each other and the dial lume perfectly.

Case: Appears unpolished with thick and even lugs. Excellent preservation with light signs of use. Very crisp hallmarks, reference and serial. Correct signed crown.

Bracelet: Correct 8388 with 22 links and very light stretch. Appears completely unpolished and has no significant blemishes.

Crystal: Clear.
