The watch is also equipped with Rolex's patented Oyster case technology, which provides exceptional water resistance and protection from dust and other environmental hazards. The Explorer has been worn on notable expeditions and adventures and has become a symbol of Rolex's commitment to quality and reliability in extreme conditions, and has earned a top spot in the list of Rolex's iconic models. The ref. 1016 was the longest running in the model line ('60-'89) and is coveted by collectors today for its pure design. Of all vintage Rolex watches, it might just be their most beautiful no-frills creation.
This particular 175X serial example, circa 1967 is a matte iteration with "Mk1 Frog Foot" dial. Collectors affectionately refer to this dial as such due to the Rolex logo in this era resembling just that. This piece remains in fantastic vintage condition across the board. The dial's zinc sulfide lume plots have aged cleanly, are full and have taken a lovely "cream" patina, matching the hands. It is mint with no notable wear under magnification. The hands contain their correct lume from factory. The case has been professionally refinished to the highest degree of detail possible. All of the lugs are full, extremely sharp and show their correct brushing. It is paired to a slightly later Rolex folded link 7836/280 dating to '71 with very light stretch. It retains 13 links fitting an approximate 7.75 inch wrist. Finding top condition 1016s is surely becoming more difficult each year and we're proud to offer this timepiece to its next custodian.
