Introduced in 1954, the now cult classic Rolex GMT was initially designed as a pilots and travelers watch with its roots tied to Pan Am. The first examples featured a "Pepsi" bezel insert which provided ease of use for deciphering day/night in an alternate time-zone and remains in production to this day. Over the decades, various iterations of the GMT have been released from the "Root Beer" to the blue "Batman." Today, the GMT is as practical as it is popular with collectors, offering great beauty in it's vintage and neo-vintage examples which have taken on their own unique character over the decades. 

This particular GMT ref. 16700, circa '98 in an interesting and rare transitional example with "Swiss only" dial. These dials were only produced for about a year during the shift from tritium to luminova luminous material. This set on offer remains in fantastic neo-vintage condition with a mint dial and most notably a mint "Pepsi" insert that's taken a unique and wonderful "raspberry" color. The case is very strong with thick, evenly shaped lugs and sharp edges. The 787970/501B bracelet shows a matching U date code and remains tight with a full set of 13 links. For the discerning collector, this piece come accompanied by its full set of accessories, including punched warranty papers (open so the next owner can claim this as truly their own), inner and outer boxes, serialized/waxed hang tags, all booklets and wallet. For anyone whose been hunting for a top GMT in this era, we love the thinner case feel of the 16700 and would be hard pressed to find a more attractive and complete example. 

Dial: Is mint under magnification.

Bezel insert: Is mint and boasts and incredible "raspberry" color in its red portion.

Hands: Are matching.

Case: Is very strong with thick, evenly shaped lugs and sharp edges. Minimal signs of use. Correct signed crown.

Bracelet: Correct 787970/501B that shows a matching U date code and remains tight with a full set of 13 links.
