The Rolex Submariner was first introduced by Rolex in 1953 and is notable for being one of the first watches specifically designed for diving. This Submariner, circa 1970 is affectionately referred to by collectors as the "Red Sub" due to its red model text on the dial. Compared to the normal reference 1680's of the era these pieces have a special aura and have become very desirable in top condition. This example features a "mk4" dial which was the first iteration to display the depth rating in feet vs meters. It has remained in lovely vintage condition with a very well preserved dial, showing a nice "khaki" patina. The insert has a replacement pip, shows normal signs of wear and has "ghosted" to a lovely grey/navy color. The case is excellent with thick, even lugs and original chamfers still visible, suggesting minimal polishing in the past. The folded link oyster bracelet has a matching date code, shows medium stretch and will fit an approximate 6.75 inch wrist. For anyone looking for an honest example to wear we're certain this piece has many more smiles per mile to enjoy for years to come. 

Dial: Remains in fantastic condition with cleanly aged tritium plots that are all present and full. They have taken a lovely "khaki" patina throughout. No notable wear under magnification. Bezel insert: Has a replacement pip. Overall, excellent with normal signs of use consistent with age. It has "ghosted" to a beautiful deep grey/navy color. Hands: Are matching and their lume is stable. Case: Is excellent with normal signs of use consistent with age. The lugs remain very thick and evenly proportioned. Original chamfers are still visible suggesting minimal polishing in the past. Correct signed crown. Bracelet: Correct folded link Oyster with matching date code. It displays medium stretch and retains 10 links, fitting an approximate 6.75 inch wrist. Crystal: Clear.
