The Rolex Submariner was first introduced by Rolex in 1953 and is notable for being one of the first watches specifically designed for diving. Beyond its technical capabilities, the Submariner has become an icon in the world of watches, with a timeless design that has remained largely unchanged since its introduction. It is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential watches of all time, and has become a symbol of Rolex's reputation for quality, durability, and precision. The Sub has been worn by everyone from professional divers and military personnel to Hollywood celebrities and heads of state, cementing its place in the pantheon of iconic watches.

The ref. 5512 was brought to market to accompany the ref. 5513 as a slightly higher grade variant with chronometer certification. The 5512 of course was introduced with a glossy gilt dial and ran into the later matte dial era of production. That brings us to this example circa 1968 with a matte dial and "meters first" text, a small yet desirable detail for collectors and arguably appealing to a wider array of buyers having transitioned from glossy to matte. This piece has remained in phenomenal condition boasting a mint dial with gorgeous and warm patina, a "long 5" insert which is also a "mega fat font" and "kissing 40." To boot, the case has remained extremely sharp and the rivet bracelet perfectly tight. We could not be more thrilled to offer this top grade Submariner in the shop! 

Dial: Phenomenal preservation with clean tritium plots that remain full and devoid of chips. All of the lume has aged evenly to a gorgeous and even golden/custard color. No notable blemishes under magnification. Bezel insert: The "mega fat font", "long 5" and "kissing 40" insert has remained in stunning shape with beautiful fading to dark navy and a full pip. Hands: Are all matching and their lume is stable. Case: Fantastic with thick and even proportions. The original chamfers remain very sharp and distinct. Normal signs of use consistent with age. Correct signed crown. Bracelet: Correct and valuable rivet variant with 11 links and extremely tight. Crystal: Clear. Accessories: Correct inner and outer boxes. The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
