Seiko and Japan's first commercial dive watch was released in 1965 and is now referred to by collectors as the "62MAS." It was initially introduced as the reference 6217-8000 with "small crown" and later updated to the ref. 6217-8001 with "big crown." These two references would be the building blocks for many other iterations of iconic Seiko divers and the 62MAS has become a true vintage grail piece for collectors of every level as a result. It's hard not to love the original design of most collectibles and we believe these pieces are completely deserving of the cult-like following they've garnered in recent years. 

This gorgeous "big crown" example on offer comes from June of 1967 and was recently acquired through Tokyo retailer Alpha Omega in '23. We've included their guarantee, service papers and wood box from its last retail sale. Finding this reference in such honest and beautiful condition is becoming harder each year and we couldn't be more thrilled to offer this piece which is in our opinion Seiko's most important watch. The dial/hands have remained in fantastic shape with clean and typical looking "greenish" lume. The case is very strong with thick and even lugs. For anyone looking for an ultra charming vintage Seiko diver, this piece is a great opportunity for collectors of any level.

Dial: Displays fantastic preservation for this ref. with clean looking lumed markers and correct "greenish" colored patina we see in most examples. Bezel insert: Has some light but honest wear and appears correct unlike so many which are service replacements. Hands: Are matching and their lume is stable. Case: Honest signs of use consistent with age. The lugs are thick, even and remain sharp. Caseback still displays crisp markings. Signed crown appears correct. Bracelet: Two piece tropic style rubber strap. Crystal: Clear. Accessories: Japanese service papers from '23, wood box and Guarantee from Tokyo retailer Alpha Omega from the same time. All functions of the watch operate flawlessly. The recently serviced movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
