Seiko and Japan's first commercial dive watch was first released in 1965 and is now referred to by collectors as the "62MAS." It was initially introduced as the reference 6217-8000 with "small crown" and later updated to the ref. 6217-8001 with "big crown." These two references would be the building blocks for many other iterations of iconic Seiko divers and the 62MAS has become a true vintage grail piece for collectors of every level as a result. Its hard not to love the original design of most collectibles and we believe these pieces are completely deserving of the cult-like following they've garnered in recent years. 

This "big crown" example on offer comes from May of 1967. It is not without its imperfections and what we'd refer to as a "patina monster" but its one we're not afraid to let out at night and appreciate for its flaws. Some of these include a date disc that was clearly re-written on to repair some missing ink but more on that in the condition report. This piece is great for those who appreciate some honest wear and a very sharp case as it remains in unpolished condition. The watch just came back from a complete overhaul and is ready decades to come. If you've been hunting for a reasonably priced 62MAS to add to your collection this piece offers immense character and could be just the ticket! 

Dial: Like many examples of this reference there is some degradation of the tritium. There is also some wear on the grey sunburst dial. The date disc had some of its numbers begin to come off and some have even been partially repaired. We find this adds to its story and character. Bezel insert: Is likely a service replacement. Hands: Have been relumed. Case: Appears completely unpolished with sharp edges and lug holes. Honest signs of use consistent with age. Signed crown appears correct. Bracelet: Two piece tropic style rubber strap. Crystal: Clear. Accessories: None. All functions of the watch operate flawlessly. The recently serviced movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
