This Tidemaster yachting chronograph is a very unusual find that we’re proud to bring to market. The brand is not discussed much in collecting circles, however there are a few other examples to pull information from and the previous owner was also helpful with the scholarship of these seldom seen chronographs.

The watch most notably features a “big eye” sub dial which functions as a 5-minute regatta timer. The rotating bezel also serves as a tide indicator a feature we don’t often see on wrist watches, and was perhaps most notably popularized by the Heuer Seafarer. If that wasn’t cool enough, this particular example is a Mk1 with different hand set. Comparing this to later variants, we see that the Mk1 has a very prominent orange sweep seconds hand, adding to the funky character of the piece. Other notable features include a date window and blue resin case which houses a reliable manual wind Valjoux 7734 movement.

This is a very interesting piece of nautical and horological history that we’re unlikely to see again anytime soon so don’t sleep on this one!

CONDITION REPORT

Dial: Fantastic preservation with no notable blemishes under magnification.

Hands: Are matching and their tritium is all present and stabile.

Case: Very light signs of use. Correct unsigned crown.

Bezel: Light signs of use consistent with the rest of the watch.

Crystal: Clear.
